Welcome from the organisers

It gives us immense pleasure to invite you to the First National Conference of the Association of Psychiatric Social Work Professionals (APSWP), being hosted by the Department of Psychiatric Social Work, Institute of Mental Health And Neurosciences, (IMHANS), Kozhikode, Kerala and jointly organized by the IMHANS and APSWP,  from 7th  to 9th  February 2024.

The theme of the conference is Mental Health for All:  Transcending Boundaries,  with sub-themes encompassing a wide spectrum of mental health practice, service, and training. The conference would be a platform for students and professionals from Social Work, Psychiatric Social Work, and other mental health professionals to enrich and share their knowledge and fine-tune their skills. We look forward to meeting you at the conference.

About   IMHANS

IMHANS is an autonomous institution under the Government of Kerala established in the year 1982. It is one of the Centres of excellence in mental health in the country. We now have full-fledged Departments of Psychiatry, Psychiatric Social work, Clinical Psychology, and Psychiatric Nursing. The Child Development Service (CDS) of the institute is a unique one in the Malabar region of Kerala, with a multidisciplinary team of experts catering to the needs of children and adolescents. IMHANS is also an academic institute affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). The institute now conducts M.Phil & Ph.D.  programs in Psychiatric Social Work, Clinical Psychology, and running Post-Basic Diploma course in Psychiatric Nursing. IMHANS could make our mark in the mental health scenario of Kerala in teaching, training, research, and clinical services.

About APSWP

APSWP is the only national association for Psychiatric Social Work Professionals in India. The association was born out of the collective need expressed by professionals across India for a body that takes up the cause of the profession and the professionals.  Psychiatric Social Workers are valuable members of the Mental Health team with   expertise in preventive, promotive, curative , and rehabilitative aspects. APSWP makes concerted efforts to protect professional interests, facilitates in setting standards for professional practice and propagates the ethical values intrinsic to the profession. The  Association is also engaged in activities to protect the interest of people with mental illness and their family in par with  other associations.

General Norms

  • Only registered participants can contest for awards and receive a certificate

  • Life members can contest in various award categories except those meant for  UG, PG, M.Phil scholars, and Behavioral Sciences.

  • The presenting author should be the first author in the award paper and he/she will be receiving the award

  • Soft copies of the full paper must be submitted with the cover letter to the organizing committee of the conference through an email: apswp2024@gmail.com,  clearly mentioning the award category on or before the 15th January 2024

  • Original research articles/case reports (with psychosocial intervention and discussion) that have not been published in any other journal would be considered for the award category.

Guidelines for abstract

  • Abstracts are invited for free paper presentations, Award papers, Poster presentations , Symposia and Workshops.

  • The abstract should NOT be more than 250 words with headings such as introduction, methodology, results, conclusion and keywords (3-5 keywords)

  •  The abstract should contain the title of the paper, name, designation and institutional affiliation of authors, and contact details (e-mail ID & phone number) of the presenting author at the end of the abstract.

  • Registration is mandatory for all the presenting authors.

Guidelines for full papers

  • Full paper should NOT be more than 3000 words with headings such as introduction, methodology, results, discussion and conclusion.

  • A maximum of two tables and one figure can be appended separately

  • Referencing style: APA 6th Edition

  • Declaration of conflict of interest
